Many people have trouble with prayer: they worry that they don’t pray the right way, they feel bored with a steady diet of Rosary or other devotional prayers, and sometimes, they are just not sure that they are even praying. This strand of evening programming at Loyola House is designed to companion with you in a cost-effective way as you learn a variety of ways to pray.
Prayer allows us to encounter God in new and wonderful ways. It also opens us to encounter the people we meet in our daily lives, and even ourselves, in new and wonderful ways. We pray to spend time with God, getting to know the minds and heart of God, learning to recognize God’s presence, activity and call in all human experience. We pray to grow in knowledge of God, to make connections between what we experience and what we believe. We pray to open ourselves to the grace God is continually pouring into all of creation.
Jump-Start will not only explain a particular way of praying; each evening will give you an experience of that form of prayer. The structure of Jump-Start is a set of four bi-weekly, 1.5 hour sessions over a two-month period. You will thus have four opportunities to experience one particular kind of prayer, which creates, through frequency, an intensity to the experience and, potentially, a community with which to pray. After the four introductory sessions, one evening of pray in that style will be offered in subsequent months. This is a “pay-what-you-can” opportunity to expand your repertoire of ways to pray!
The four evenings are: June 6, June 20, July 4, and July 18
Later in Summer 2023, we will offer Prayer Through Art…look for those evenings beginning August 22.
