What better way to commemorate Earth Day 2022 than by sitting together at the feet of trees? With the help of local naturalist byron murray (toknowtheland) and textile artist Lorraine Roy (lroyart), retreatants will explore creative connections with the wise sentinels that guard our breath all around us.

If humans are to live well into the future, we need to learn how to communicate, share and work like trees.

It was no accident that the Buddha received enlightenment under a Bodhi tree, nor that a tree was the vehicle for Christ’s resurrection.

The retreat will combine guided outdoor walks and activities plus private time inside one’s silence to draw closer to the good of trees.

The resurgence of Indigenous, land-based knowledge; a pandemic that has given North Americans more time and space for proximity with nature; climatic extremes that scream for greater balance between the built and natural worlds; heightening religious awareness about the sanctity of Creation: these and other contemporary realities urge us to get to know our neighbours in new and deeper ways. In this weekend-retreat series, we will spend spiritual, scientific and experiential time with our kin-creatures. Through presentations, guided walks, creative activities, personal reflection and conversation, we’ll better befriend our relatives. The series will also include input from artists, activists and other lovers of Earth.
