Nestled within the landscape of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, the Community Orchard is a living testament to the power of community, stewardship, and the joy of growing together. Home to a collection of apple trees and a variety of fruiting shrubs and bushes, the orchard offers a peaceful space to learn, connect, and contribute to the land.
A Shared Space to Grow
The orchard is cared for largely by volunteers who are passionate about ecological land care and fruit tree cultivation. From pruning and mulching to harvesting and seasonal tending, our volunteers play a vital role in keeping the orchard healthy and thriving.
This is a space where knowledge is shared freely, whether you’re an experienced grower or simply curious about caring for fruit trees. Volunteers learn alongside one another, deepening their understanding of organic orchard practices while helping to nurture a space that gives back to the land and community.
What You’ll Find
- Apple trees make up the heart of the orchard, providing seasonal beauty and fresh fruit.
- Berry bushes and other fruit and nut shrubs and trees contribute to the orchard’s biodiversity.
- The landscape supports pollinators and local wildlife, creating a rich and dynamic ecosystem.
As the orchard continues to grow, so does our vision for its future. We’re exploring ways to expand the variety of fruit trees and deepen community involvement through workshops and seasonal gatherings.
