The land of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre supports a diversity of ecosystems. These include deciduous and mixed forest, meadows, urban fringe, naturalized and ornamental landscapes, Class 1 & 2 agricultural land and Class 3 provincially significant wetlands.
The Land department is responsible for the care of all non-agricultural land at Ignatius. Over 370 acres of natural and ornamental landscapes that facilitate prayer, meditation, education, recreation and community outreach programs. Work varies from ecological restoration, forestry, and construction, to landscaping and property maintenance. We believe in right relationship with the Earth and affirming our commitment to environmental stewardship, the land is maintained without the use of synthetic or petroleum–based chemicals.
If you share our vision for sustainable land management, please consider working with our Land staff as a volunteer. We are often in need of extra help planting trees, maintaining our trails, and general up–keep of our grounds. If you are interested, please take a moment and complete our volunteer application.
Blessing of the Land
Join us as we celebrate the blessing of the land, as we pray for an outpouring of the Spirit on our land, crops, and all who care for the Ignatius Jesuit Centre. This event is held at St. Brigid’s Villa, the last Sunday of May 10 am. In May, check our events page under “General” for more information.
Spring Tree Planting
If you like to “dig in” and feel the earth come alive, please join us as we enhance the trails, woodlands and wetlands of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre. Planting new nursery stock and mulching around tree seedlings can be big job so if you can help, please contact us!
