Have you ever wondered what you can learn by slowing down and paying attention to a river?

Join the Ignatius Jesuit Centre conservation team for a morning exploring the Speed River and learning how to read the landscape through the plants, water, and wildlife that call it home. We’ll walk sections of the river together, looking for invasive species such as giant hogweed, observing the health of the riparian ecosystem, and learning some of the techniques conservationists use to monitor these important habitats.

This is a hands-on opportunity to spend time on the land while contributing to our understanding of the river that flows through Ignatius Jesuit Centre. Expect to walk on uneven terrain and, where conditions allow, enter shallow water. A limited number of waders will be available to borrow, or you’re welcome to bring your own. We’ll meet at the Farm Workshop and head out to the creek from there!

No experience is necessary—just curiosity, clothes you don’t mind getting a little muddy, and a willingness to explore.
