Small Plot Acreage Rentals

Access to land for people growing food, ideas, and community.

Ignatius Farm has provided land access to small-scale farmers and food-based projects for more than two decades. What began as part of the Jesuit working farm has evolved into a place where new growers, ecological entrepreneurs, and community organizations can establish and refine their agricultural ventures. Located just north of Guelph, the rental program offers flexible parcels, shared infrastructure, and a supportive environment grounded in sustainable land stewardship.

Tenants at Ignatius Farm can access a range of plot sizes to match their project needs, from intensive quarter-acre sections to larger multi-acre fields. Water access is available in designated areas, and certain sites include additional infrastructure such as a farmhouse, barn, or pasture suitable for integrated farm operations. All renters follow the Canadian Organic Standards, ensuring that the land is cared for with regenerative and ecologically responsible practices.

The rental program welcomes individuals, groups, and organizations working in regenerative agriculture, food education, ecological research, or community-focused food systems. Many tenants use their plots to grow vegetables, grains, herbs, or specialty crops, while others explore seed saving, small-scale livestock, perennial systems, or research-driven projects. Ignatius Farm places particular value on supporting new farmers and applicants from communities historically underrepresented in agriculture.

Application Process

Proposals are accepted each year through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process.

  • Annual intake deadline: January 15
  • Rolling consideration: Applications received after the deadline may be reviewed depending on seasonal availability

Interested applicants are asked to describe their project, outline their land and infrastructure needs, and demonstrate alignment with the values of ecological stewardship and community benefit.
