Spritual Programming

Finding God in all things, through reflection and action.

For more than sixty years, Ignatius Jesuit Centre has been a place where spirituality, community, and the land come together. The Jesuits first arrived on this property in the early 20th century, gradually shaping it into a place dedicated to prayer, reflection, hospitality, and ecological care. Their presence has always emphasized a simple truth grounded in Ignatian spirituality: that God is present in all things, and that our relationship with creation is part of our spiritual life.

For decades, this took shape through Loyola House, which became known internationally for its retreats, spiritual direction training, and its welcoming approach to people from many faith backgrounds. Alongside this work, spiritual practice was woven into the daily life of the farm community, the rhythms of the land, and the relationships formed here. Care for one another and care for the earth were always understood as interconnected.

With the closure of Loyola House’s residential retreat program, IJC is entering a new chapter. The commitment to Ignatian spirituality remains, but the ways we put it into practice are evolving. Beginning in 2026, the Centre for Integral Ecology will serve as the home for spiritual programming at IJC. This new initiative draws from Laudato Si’, Ignatian tradition, and the long history of ecological engagement on this land. Its purpose is simple: to offer pathways for people to explore spirituality through reflection, learning, and hands-on connection with the natural world.

Programming in 2026 will include opportunities for guided reflection, land-based prayer and contemplative practice, workshops exploring spirituality and ecology, and collaboration with partners rooted in Jesuit, Catholic, and interfaith traditions. These offerings will continue the long-standing invitation for people to deepen their spiritual lives in a place where the land itself is part of the experience.

As IJC moves forward, spiritual programming will remain grounded in the same values that have shaped this place for generations: openness, ecological responsibility, and the belief that caring for our common home is both spiritual and practical work.
