IJC Announcement: A Transition at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre

Dear Friends and Community,

We are writing to share important news about the future of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre (IJC). As announced in our press release on May 8, 2025, the Jesuits of Canada have made the decision to transition Loyola House’s retreat and formation programs to other Jesuit centres across the country, effective December 31, 2025.

While this marks the end of an era for Loyola House, the Ignatius Jesuit Centre itself will remain open and continue as a vital apostolate of the Society of Jesus. Our 600-acre property comprising farmland, forests, and conservation areas will remain under Jesuit ownership. The Centre’s role as a place of ecological engagement, community collaboration, and spiritual reflection will continue.

In the coming months, our current retreat programs will remain active, offering visitors a chance to experience this sacred space as it prepares for its new mission which will focus on ecological justice and reconciliation with creation, rooted in the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus. Over the next year, the leadership of the IJC will present a renewed mission plan designed to strengthen its apostolic impact and secure its long-term financial sustainability.

We understand that this transition may bring a mix of emotions. Loyola House has been a place of deep spiritual growth, community, and connection for many. We invite you to join us for a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, June 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Loyola House, with an option to participate via Zoom. Kevin Kelly from the Jesuits of Canada will provide more details about this decision and answer questions from our community. Additional details about the Town Hall Meeting will be sent in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned. We know that you will have many questions about this announcement—please give us some time to gather the answers in the coming days.

We are grateful for your continued support and presence as we embark on this new chapter. Together, we will honor the rich legacy of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre and look forward to a future that deepens our commitment to ecological justice and spiritual reflection.

With gratitude,
The IJC Team
