Reflections and Next Steps: Loyola House Town Hall Summary and Letter from the Provincial
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Town Hall meetings on June 9th and 10th last week. These sessions were an opportunity to offer clarity around the decision to conclude retreat programming at Loyola House by the end of 2025 and to begin a broader conversation about the future of Ignatius Jesuit Centre.
We are now sharing two documents that speak to this transition:
- A letter from Fr. Jeffrey Burwell, SJ, Provincial of the Jesuits of Canada, expressing gratitude for the many people connected to Loyola House and outlining the vision for a renewed Jesuit mission at IJC.
- A summary of the Town Hall meetings, including the context behind the decision, financial and structural realities, and a Q&A reflecting community concerns that came up during the meetings.
As this transition moves forward, the team at Ignatius Jesuit Centre is working on how to best engage our community with transparency, openness, and care. We are currently developing a community engagement strategy to guide how we gather input, share news, and invite participation while also balancing your ideas and insight with the financial realities we face as we plan for IJC’s future.
We invite you to stay connected with us through the IJC Voice newsletter, here on our website, or on social media, where we’ll continue to share opportunities for involvement and updates as they unfold. If you have questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to reach out to Kel Smith at ksmith@ignatiusguelph.ca.
