2Rivers Festival at the Old-Growth Forest Project: Protecting & Planting the Floodplain

May 14, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join the Ignatius Old-Growth Forest Project in its quest to heal and protect Marden Creek! This event will offer a number of actions to improve an old agricultural field in the Marden’s floodplain that has been regenerating for the past ten years. Volunteer opportunities include tree and vegetation planting, invasive field species removal, and an education session on how the land and water work together to create a healthy, connected ecosystem.

The Old-Growth Forest Project is an initiative of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre. Situated at the northern edge of the City of Guelph, this 93-acre nature sanctuary of trails, forests, meadows, wetlands, and waterways is protected in perpetuity by a Conservation Easement with the Ontario Farmland Trust. It is the Project’s goal, with the help of local students and community volunteers, to restore and protect these diverse ecological communities and to assist the regeneration of retired farmland, from old-field meadow to old-growth forest.

This event will happen rain or shine, so please dress for the weather, bring sunscreen and plenty of water, and be prepared to make some new friends while working with the Land. Registration is required for planning purposes using the form below.
