A Morning Workshop

As spiritual directors, we seek to be trustworthy companions for those who invite us into the tender beauty of their inner lives. This morning workshop will focus on building our capacity in holding trustworthy spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in spiritual direction. Join facilitator, Tamara Shantz, as we celebrate the beauty of queer spiritual journeys, acknowledge the trauma and pain that many queer folx carry, and deepen our awareness of the ways that rainbow Christians are blessing the church.
Our time together will include:
- Learning together about the rainbow community including the basics of language and terminology
- Contemplative exercises inviting inner reflection on our own relationship to diverse expressions of gender and sexuality
- Exploration of some of the contributions of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to the church (ie. Queer theology) and resources for further learning
This will be a space that assumes and affirms that all genders and all sexual orientations are beautiful and God-given. This will not be a time to discuss or debate the larger topic of gender and sexuality within Christianity.
Bio:
Tamara Shantz (she/her) is a spiritual director and Enneagram facilitator rooted in the Haldimand Tract – traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishnaabe, and Neutral peoples (the area known as Kitchener). She is especially interested in contemplative Christianity and the intersections between social justice and spirituality. Tamara identifies as queer and lives in an intergenerational household with her partner, mother-in-law, and their beloved cat, Melas.
