This full day-workshop will overview a number of topics related to our evolving psychological and social understanding of trauma and addiction. Many people seeking spiritual direction come wounded by a past that makes difficult their present. Becoming trauma-informed helps spiritual directors listen more compassionately and effectively, while also teaching them the limits of their art.
Interactive presentations will cover the neuroscience of addiction and trauma; understanding addictive behaviors, processes of change, stress/trauma related responses, window of tolerance; grounding strategies; motivational interviewing and a review of current strategies of treatment relevant to the work of spiritual direction.

Bio:
Don Webers is a Registered Psychotherapist specializing in: addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. He provides individual and group-based therapy. He completed his Honors Bachelor of Arts degree at Wilfrid Laurier University and Addiction Careworker Diploma at McMaster University. In addition, he has over 21 years of extensive inpatient experience working with a variety of mental health disorders, as well as in outpatient private practice settings.
